Instant Inspiration: An ode to Spring
A bit of spring in my step.
I love the feeling of a season as it changes. It’s a reminder that life is moving forward, the past is gone, and a new chapter is unfolding. Spring feels like hope, longer days, walks in the woods, pastel colors, rainy days where the sun peaks through, shedding jackets, and my birthday approaching. Since moving to the south, Spring really springs up on me sooner than what I am used to. I woke up this February morning to a warm breeze and the smell of blooming plants on my walk with Ramsey. Since this is a place for savoring the little bits of our life, take a moment to savor your favorite things about Spring! What comes to mind? Here are my favorites:
A Bit of Spring
Daffodils blooming as soon as the grounds thaws. Once I see a daffodil, I know Spring is arriving. It makes me excited every time.
Daylight lasts longer! It’s hard to be motivated to do anything when the sun checks out immediately after work. Spring means more light and liveliness in our evenings. Don’t forget to “spring forward” your clocks on Sunday, March 8.
Farmer’s Markets! It’s the perfect time for farmer’s markets to return. I am singing and playing guitar with my coworker at one this Sunday. I can’t wait to enjoy the perfect weather and see everyone strolling through the stalls.
Joy. There is something inherently joyful about Spring as the days become warmer and brighter and you see the new year stretching out ahead of you. What did you love about Spring as a child? Making Easter eggs? Summer break in arm’s reach? There was so much to be joyful about, and still is, if we take time to be present.
Spring is special and temporary, just like us. Maybe it’s morbid but I’m turning 30 this April, and if I live until I’m 80 or 90, that’s only 50 or 60 more springs. 50 more times of seeing the first spring daffodil or feeling that first warm day after a cold winter. There’s so much to get done in every given day, but let yourself stop and savor the glorious weather, the sounds of the birds, and the clear blue sky. It’s costs nothing and it’s completely priceless. A few moments of savoring might just give you a little spring in your step for the rest of your weekend.
